What is CCS2 (Combined Charging System, Type 2)?

CCS2 is the European DC fast-charging standard, extending the Type 2 connector with two additional DC pins for high-power charging.

The Combined Charging System Type 2 (CCS2), coded IEC_62196_T2_COMBO in most data feeds, is the dominant DC fast-charging standard in Europe, Türkiye and many emerging markets. It combines the Type 2 AC connector with two extra high-current DC pins, letting the same inlet handle both slow AC and rapid DC charging.

CCS2 supports a wide power range, from around 50 kW up to 350 kW and beyond on capable hardware, which is why it is the default assumption for new highway fast-charging deployments. Most new battery-electric vehicles sold in CCS2 markets ship with this inlet.

For data purposes CCS2 is important because it is the connector standard you will encounter most often at high-power DC sites, and because its presence (or absence) at a station is a strong signal of whether that site is suitable for long-distance travel.
