The IEC 62196 Type 2 connector (sometimes called Mennekes) is the standard AC charging interface in Europe, Türkiye and much of the world outside North America and Japan. It handles single- and three-phase AC and is the connector you find on home wallboxes and destination chargers.
Type 2 AC power typically ranges from around 3.7 kW single-phase up to 22 kW three-phase, making it ideal for places where a vehicle is parked for hours — offices, hotels, shopping centres — rather than highway stops.
Type 2 is also the physical basis of the CCS2 connector, which adds DC pins to the same inlet shape. In data terms, distinguishing a plain Type 2 AC connector (IEC_62196_T2) from a CCS2 DC connector (IEC_62196_T2_COMBO) is essential, because their charging speeds differ by an order of magnitude.
In the Data for EV model
Data for EV keeps IEC_62196_T2 (AC) and IEC_62196_T2_COMBO (CCS2 DC) as distinct canonical connector standards, each with its own power and tariff, so AC and DC charging at the same station are never conflated.
